The Z-29 Central Defense Ship is a recurring boss in Tyrian, being fought three times during the game. The boss is a defensive mechanism used by the Gencore Tech Alliance. It will first appear on Savara during the first episode.

The Z-29 appears as a large floating ship. It detaches the two side pods, with each part acting independently; while the central part is the main target, the pods can be destroyed. The boss constantly moves around the screen, shooting missiles forward and bullets aimed at the player.
